your points are valid.. but I do know this.. I wouldn't have said anything if I thought you were a female because I didn't parcitularly enjoy the pieces or think they were that deep. I thought them kinda of cliche and bland. I mean... prom dresses and purple teddy bears?

I'm not exactly tring to say what you did wasn't easy... I'm trying to say that a mans p.o.v. is rarely expressed in these matters. It would have been much more interesting and a bit more uh.. "ground breaking" for lack of a better phrase to show things from the mans point of view on the subject. Teen pregnancy.. and pregnancy in general, is always viewed as a girls problem, never a guys. Males are basically not represented at all when it comes to this subject.. and this only feeds more and more into the idea that males have no responibility after the child is convieved and it's all womens work from there on out.

I love you all...not really, but who's keeping score?
~0fish0:icon0fish0: Dec 20, 2005, 4:36:22 PM
yes, it would be so easy to a series of pieces on "f I got a girl pregnant." The challenge is stepping outside your comfort zone and dealing with issues through art that you may never deal with in real life (teen pregnancy). Although you're right, I have never been pregnant; I have done my research. Talking to girls going though it, going to planned parenthoof just for information. I have a pretty good understanding of the torment, isolation, helplessness, and sometimes joy a young mother goes through. I felt this series would shine light on an often overlooked part of our culture.
Another thing, what does it matter, who does the piece (male or female)? As long as the message is clear and the work evokes emotion on some level, the artist has done his job.
Until you try creating a series of works on a stong subject matter, you will not understand what it takes to create a successful concentration. The fact that you followed my work close enough to examine each of my pieces of the concentration, means it got through to you and thats what really matters. I could have labeled myself a female on deviantart and you wouldn't have said a thing except "good work"
